The Association for the Promotion and Exhibition of the Arts in Lebanon (APEAL) has launched a competition for the design of a new modern and contemporary art museum in Beirut, Lebanon. Architects of Lebanese origins based in Lebanon or globally are invited to submit entries for the yet-to-be-named museum, which is set to open in 2020.
“Envisioned as a multidisciplinary hub of art and design,” the museum’s “collections and program are being developed with the aim of bringing together diverse populations and narratives from the region and beyond.”
The competition’s jury includes Lord Peter Palumbo, Chair of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, Zaha Hadid, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Julia Peyton-Jones, Rodolphe Khoury, Lamia Joreige, and Fares Al Dahdah.
An initial Request for Qualifications stage will determine a short list of up to ten architects, who will then move on to a comprehensive Request for Proposals stage. The first stage of submissions is open until January 4, 2016, and the winning proposal will be selected in Fall 2016. Learn more about the competition here.
